Who is Matthias Dandois?
Some people use a bike to get from one place to another. And then there are those who turn it into something completely different.
Matthias Dandois definitely belongs to the second category.
French, born in 1989, Dandois is one of the most recognizable names in BMX Flatland and one of the riders who has done the most to change the way this discipline is interpreted. At just 19 he was crowned world champion, and over the course of his career he has won 10 BMX Flatland world titles.
Today, though, his story with the bike goes well beyond competitions.
Matthias Dandois is joining Bikeflip as an investor, the marketplace dedicated to buying and selling used and reconditioned bikes.
One bike, endless possibilities
Dandois's story with BMX begins as a teenager. In 2002 he discovers flatland after watching a rider perform, and from that moment the bike becomes far more than a sport.
For years he trains for hours, experiments with new tricks and gradually builds a style all his own. In 2007 comes his first big international win at the Voodoo Jam in New Orleans. A year later, in 2008, comes his first world title.
But what sets Dandois apart isn't just the trophies.
It's his way of interpreting the bike.
His riding has helped blur the line between BMX Flatland and street riding, combining technique, creativity and a strong attention to aesthetics. For Dandois, flatland is almost a form of dance: it isn't simply about landing a trick, but about finding the most fluid and creative way to do it.
It's a philosophy that also shows up in his path outside of competitions. Dandois has been taking photos since the age of 16, has worked as a model and has developed several projects tied to image, video and BMX culture.
In other words, for Matthias the bike has never been just a bike.
From BMX to a frozen lake
If there's one thing that captures how Dandois thinks, it's his approach to projects.
Doing something that's already been done isn't enough for him.
In 2026, with "Cold Was The Ground," he brought BMX Flatland to one of the most unlikely places to ride it: a completely frozen lake on the Haven Islands, in northern Sweden.
No asphalt. No grip.
Just ice, sub-zero temperatures, and a surface where every movement becomes unpredictable.
To be able to ride on the lake, Dandois even developed special studded tires to get traction on the ice. A project that perfectly sums up his approach to the bike: experiment, adapt, and keep searching for a new direction.
And it's not an isolated case. Over the years Dandois has turned video production into an important part of his career, using unusual places and situations to tell the story of BMX from a completely different perspective.
A new investor for Bikeflip
It's precisely this combination of creativity, innovation and bike culture that makes Matthias Dandois's entry into Bikeflip feel like a natural fit.
Dandois joins a community of athletes who have already chosen to invest in and believe in the Bikeflip project, including Fabio Wibmer, Loïc Bruni, Gabriel Wibmer, Johnny Salido, Stevie Schneider and Clemens Kaudela.
