The story of Santa, a (used) bike!
I’m a red carbon Santa Cruz mountain bike, and I reflect the light even when I’m dusty, a full-suspension MTB with suspension that seems to breathe with the ground and a geometry designed for one thing only: going fast, everywhere, on the trails and downhill.

I’ve never been a leisure bike, nor one of those that stays leaned against a wall just to look good. I’m a trail bike born for mud under my tires, for technical singletrack, and for descents tackled with a heart beating a little faster than necessary.

When I arrived at Andrea’s, I was brand-new, still smelling of workshop and promises. Shiny, flawless, ready to become much more than just a new bike. I didn’t yet know that soon I would become a used mountain bike, but one of those used bikes with a real story on it.

When I was the only one. And Andrea wasn’t looking at any other.
For years I was Andrea Maranelli’s bike. My one and only owner, a great athlete, someone who never gets on a bike “just because.” With him I did everything, without ever holding back: corners taken too fast, mud up to the hubs, endless climbs that seemed like they would never end, and descents that started with a smile and ended with a slightly crazy laugh.

We were a real team. Me and him. A used Santa Cruz bike that asked for nothing but another lap, another trail, another madness to tell.

The day I realized I wasn’t enough anymore…
At first you don’t notice. It always happens like that. A distracted glance while walking through the garage. A comment tossed out: “This new Santa Cruz V10 is nice.” Then, little by little, you start to notice that Andrea spends more time looking at other bikes than working on me.

He looked at me with different eyes. I was the same: solid, Virtual Pivot Point suspension, and ready as always. He was the one who had changed.

And when you realize something has cracked, it’s usually already too late.

The day Andrea opened Bikeflip 🚴
One afternoon I see him sitting on the couch, phone in hand, thoughtful look. He’s not mindlessly scrolling, no. He’s focused. He opens a site: Bikeflip.

At first I’m not worried. I think: “There you go, now he’s going to show me off a bit more. Want to bet he even puts me on the homepage?”

Bikeflip, after all, is an online store for used and refurbished bikes, a place where bikes find a second chance. A serious marketplace!

He takes photos of me. Lots of them. From every angle. Carefully. With a kind of care I know well. “See? I’m still beautiful,” I think.

Then I read…

👉 “Selling a used bike – Santa Cruz”

Wait a second. Are you really selling me online? Right on Bikeflip?

That’s when I understand it’s not just a curious look. It’s a decision.

Sure, Bikeflip is full of refurbished bikes, all made like new again, rebuilt from top to bottom. Honestly? I’ve never been able to stand them.

All perfect, all super shiny, all saying they’re “like new.” Oh, please.

I’m a real used bike. For me, a good clean and a proper checkup were enough. Scars tell stories, they shouldn’t be erased.

And while I’m still trying to process all of this, she arrives at the house:

The Bikeflip Box 📦 a first-class trip 🚀
A huge box. Solid. Serious.
The Bikeflip Box, designed for the safe shipping of bicycles.
“Safe transport, sure… but where are you taking me?”

Really, Andrea? You want to ship me in a box? After everything we’ve been through together?

At first I feel betrayed. Taken apart. Literally. Yes, in pieces, in every possible sense.

But then something unexpected happens.
They secure me carefully to the box: the Bikeflip Stripes (sturdy red straps that keep me firmly against the cardboard), stopping every movement. They don’t tighten to force me, but to protect me.

And for the first time I understand they’re not abandoning me. They’re getting me ready for the journey.

Elena: my new life 👯‍♀️
When the box opens, I see her: Elena.
She looks at me carefully. She circles around me. She inspects me as if she really wants to understand who I was before her.

At first I’m annoyed. “How dare she?” I think.
“Does she know who I was? I was a serious athlete’s bike!”

But then I notice her eyes. Curious. Attentive. A bit inexperienced, maybe, but full of enthusiasm. She’s not judging me. She’s choosing me.

I look around… but are we in Germany? Help.
I left from Italy!

A new beginning
We take our time, slowly.
I learn her rhythm, she learns my character.
The first rides are cautious, almost shy. Then they become longer, more ambitious. More confident.
The corners come sooner. The descents last longer.

I’m no longer Andrea’s bike.
I’m Elena’s bike.
A used bike, yes. But with a story that has just started moving again.

Epilogue (bittersweet)
Just one thing, though. I hoped Elena would keep that box. Every now and then, I admit it, a little nap inside this famous Bikeflip Box wouldn’t have bothered me.

Instead, no. Very little time. It’s already gone again, Elena put her used Canyon Grizl CF6 inside it and shipped it to France, where she sold it.

The circle of life, I guess.

Bikeflip, and then off we go again 🚴🏼‍♀️
I learned one thing, in all of this.
Bikes don’t end when they change hands. They change voice. They change roads.

I went from Andrea to Elena. From one home to another. From a finished story to one that was only waiting.
On paper I’m a used bike. On the road, I’m not.

My name is Santa.
Santa Cruz, to be precise.

And I’m ready for the next chapter.
